I believe that when we divorced 15 years later my XH took that Sony music system at which he'd liked to sneer back in the days when most people would have crossed the road to avoid listening to him banging on about the merits of the various different brands of things sold by Richer Sounds

I think our radiogram was walnut. I can remember polishing it and twiddling with the knobs.

My grandparents' (š¤£š¤£š¤£) radiogram was indeed teak. I wasn't allowed to touch it as a child - and especially not allowed to touch the record player arm within it! Guess what was the most interesting bit to 8 year old me, therefore? I have no idea what happened to it when they sold up their bungalow.
(Nice to think that we can talk about something relatively trivial that is nothing to do with poo sticks for a change!)

My grandparents had what you call a radiogram. It was "modern" and light coloured. The record player was a different apparatus though.

I cannot remember what my parents had, funnily enough, but my first record player was a little suit case. The lid was the speaker. I was white and black.

I had a Fidelity MC3 music centre when I was about 15 or so. An awesome piece of kit...

My dad built a stereo system - record player and radio - with bits and pieces that he bought from Tandy electronics shop. He built the cupboard that housed it in the alcove of the living room.

Who needs mp3s when you could stack your singles and have them drop and play one by one?
Did get a turntable a couple of years ago to revisit old vinyl. Purchased from Richer Sounds.

We had a Grundig radiogram, it was my Dad's pride and joy.

Sigh
I couldn't afford stuff from Richer Sounds and consumer credit was harder to get then; I got hifi separates from my Mom's mail order catalogue; so it was JVC, from either Kays or Empire Stores, circa '88.
Finally got rid of them all in 2009, and sold all my vinyl, having spent the previous ten years slowly obtaining what I wanted to keep on either original CD's or copying them from the library; and then later converting all to mp3.
All of which are now stored on my mobile phone in my pocket (circa 11,500 tracks), and I still only listen to a handful of them! (Current playlist is mainly "Joanne Shaw Taylor - Nobody's Fool" from 2022).
