jda Jul 2020 6:42pm, 9 Jul 2020 7,817 posts	0 jda My grandparents (probably parents had a bit to do with it) had the forethought to pass on something to my generation directly when we were young and poor enough for it to really make a difference, rather than leaving it all to our parents who were relatively established and comfortable. I've always wondered why more people don't do this.

Velociraptor Jul 2020 8:35pm, 9 Jul 2020 47,532 posts	0 Velociraptor I've encouraged my parents to bequeath directly to my children if they don't want to leave anything to my sibling (estranged from them) and me (divorced from my children's father and remarried). This would still give them a dilemma because one of my children is also estranged from them. I think, though, they just regard "yur inherrrrritance" as a control tactic, otherwise they'd make permitted gifts to the children while they're still alive.

ChrisHB Jul 2020 9:50pm, 9 Jul 2020 19,496 posts	0 ChrisHB I worked out the month of my retirement (May of the year in which youngest was predicted to graduate) years and years in advance; then when the time came I did it. I was fortunate in my pensions, though. Totally recommend retiring while your body is as fit as possible.
