I worked for the same company for 25 1/2 years before I "retired" the first time - they did have several name changes with mergers etc. in hat time though.

My ex’ s dad didn’t speak to him for months after he left a safe job (at the time) in the fishing industry and started as a store man in an oil related firm...years later fishing up here is near enough gone and he has since worked his way up to management ( still hate him though )

Only had 3 jobs since leaving school nearly 6 with Army 16 years with Post office while deciding what to do after Army (Was meant to be a fill in job while I looked for something) Just about to start year 18 in present job.

The rules have just changed and there is no 35 year gift, I need to get to 40 for that. I have had 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 though I think. I am sure I got the 25th by the skin of my teeth before it was withdrawn

Rosehip, I don’t know if the Gordon Bennett that you knew went on to have a wedding car business, but our cars were from “Gordon Bennett Wedding Cars. Chauffeur Driven with Ribbons”. (I don’t recall whether the chauffeurs wore ribbons!)
