OMG, that's Ken Bailey in that photo, a local celebrity in his day. Posthumously though..... funny, I only thought of him as I was cycling along the prom yesterday, past where his beach hut was.

The only real time kids ran in the 1960's and before was to run away from someone chasing you for doing something you shouldn't have done! (except on Sports Day in my Grammar School or on the compulsory/horrendous annual Cross Country Run!). |

Greg, my understanding of the 3rd reason for the helmet is that it makes the policeman taller and therefore stand out in crowds so any member of the public who wants help can find them more easily, or conversely to deter any criminals in their activities making them stop and scarper ;-). um, the other infamous photo is the one covering a streaking man's "area" pinterest.com |
