Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Does everyone elses fenix freeze and eventually reboot, then freeze again when you send it a gpx file, or am I just extra lucky today? :(

I never send mine a gpx file in the first place. Is it a course? Is it a very long one? I vaguely recall that they trim long courses down, and can reboot while doing that.

I do use courses, but I use sites that generate tcx files, and use either my own software or javawartw to convert them to fit files which the watch eats happily.

just to make it extra confusing I sent a tcx (generated on fetch) and a gpx route from a race website. GPX was around 6 Mb. Watch has become responsive again, and what I'm assuming is the GPX (it's been renamed??) is listed as a course, but the tcx isn't shown.

The tcx stayed in the newfiles folder, so I'm going to assume it didn't want to eat that. Converted both to FIT files and they uploaded in seconds and map out nicely and the watch doesn't freeze :)
Thanks for the tip.

Yup, the F3 can't interpret tcx files. (Rant begins). It's got a perfectly good XML parser, or it wouldn't be able to read gpx files; gpx courses don't support course points to signal turns, and virtually none of the course building websites will generate FIT files; it wouldn't have been that challenging for it to interpret tcx files as well as gpx. (Rant ends). What did you use for the conversion, btw?

I'm going to guess file size is a big consideration. tcx was 900k, fit was 75, and gpx was 5.7 M, fit 230k....

Gpsies for generating basic GPX and FIT can't be beaten IMO, however I found that BRT was the best option if I wanted turn indicators. (And after the experiment I've never wanted them since!)

Gpsies does put turn indicators into FIT files, but they don't work (the timestamping is wrong - I have talked to the site author about this but last I heard he didn't have time to do anything about it). Working with plotaroute to sort them out with a FIT file output which will have turn indicators, too crucified by new role at work to finish the job.

Somehow I think not. Metal or leather straps aren't exactly practical for serious sports use. I changed my metal one after one run and it's never been back on since.
