I've gone climbing in the past - was OK if I was securely tied to a rope and knew I wouldn't go anywhere if I slipped but bouldering (and scrambling or exposed ridges outdoors) were a different matter...

Girl asked me to go indoor climbing with her, much as I like the idea the reality would have been humiliating and Iโ€™m very glad I declined

I was fairly wibbly on the wall the first few times but had signed up for a course of four sessions so that I'd be able to belay the wee-raptors so I had to get my money's worth.

(I realise that actual fear of heights is totally different!)

I've never tried climbing, I know it's not for me.

I once did a charity abseil off Haytor rock on Dartmoor. Loved the abseiling down, but I was terrified climbing up the smaller rock that we used for a test abseil and was shaking with fear.

The old ones were flat, so it wasn't working.
