Maybe the platform lengths have shrunk ... ar - aren't there a few stations on the SW line (either between Salisbsury & Exeter or So'ton and Weymouth) that only fit 8 carriages? I seem to remember messages about needing to be in the front 8 for some stations. And not because the train was splitting.
