Not a comparison I would make with Northumberland! But we have had a lot of rain, just not much warmth.

Lush is a good word, looks good My buddleia doesn’t look like it survived the cold snap - thought they were more hardy than that |

Mine had started to grow really early, then got frosted several times. There is now some growth low down, but really small green buds and tiny leaves. I'll cut it back once it has decided which bits are still alive. I'm surprised it is alive at all, as it got blown right out of the ground a couple of years ago. |

Mine is old, one of the first things we planted 30od years ago to hide next door’s caravan. it’s been hacked back to the ground a few times to keep it under control but has never shown signs of giving up before.

My white buddleia seems to have died, though my common-or-garden arrived-uninvited purple buddleia is still going. Ceanothus suffered a lot in the frost and I had to prune off a lot of dead branches, but there's life in it still and it's beginning to flower. |

Ceanothus is really easy from cuttings (and grows pretty quickly), so there's perhaps an argument for just planting another one once they start to look too woody and dead. I might be tempted to leave Buddleia for a while longer and see what happens. B. davidii originates from China and will tolerate far colder winters than we have. B. globosa comes from Patagonia and again will tolerate much colder winters than Britain. Maybe the fancy hybrids are a bit less tough though? |

I lost loads 😩 We had one night of -16 which decimated everything remotely tender that had been fine for many years... Once I am a bit better, they will all come out and won't be replaced by anything not resistant to the odd cold spell. Guess I got complacent with endless mild winters. |

I didn't think you could kill buddleia, ever!...I'm pretty sure once it's established it'd take napalm and Agent Orange to stop it! That said, I have failed to nurture 2 ceanothus bushes! Bedding plants in pots today. Will add few more once the tulips have gone over, in their containers. |
