Sorequads wrote: Power of 10 confirmed. Entries on night. Airport run by a club member and the runway is shut(!!!) during the race. Won’t get much flatter nor fewer turns. But a long way to travel for a mile! With the right timing it sounds a good outing. But this one doesn't quite work. I had a quick look at the 2023 results and for a second I thought hang on, 5.45 ish winner, only 17 runners. But quickly realised they'd filtered the results! More like 100 with about 5 sub 5 which would be plenty to work around / follow! |

There is a Battersea Park podium 5k and 1mile event on... 31st Dec in the afternoon. Now that would be a last gasp opportunity to stake a 1mile road time for the year! |

Bit quiet on here. Looking forward to a @lbac debrief. Any Abingdon news @TR and @Forrest Jooligan? Would be great to catch up there. @stevieg racing tonight by the look of your midday walk? Solid long run at the weekend from you. Big session today then will firmly shut things down until Cheltenham Half on Sunday. 20 mins slightly faster than MP (6:42) 5 x 3 mins (90s) faster (6:26 > 6:07) 20 mins slightly faster than MP (6:41) The steadies were good but my god do I struggle with ‘fast’! 12.4M at 6:56s all in. So fair to say this Sunday will be a ‘B’ race after last week’s ’C’ race. Talking of which: it ruined me. So stiff and fatigued. I guess that’s what you get for racing a tough hill with no recent elevation in the legs. And the winner/Mr gate closer even went to the trouble of creating a Fetch account to comment on the blog 😆 |

I went to look at your blog SQ, do you think that’s the winner for real?

Yes, very odd and a lot of effort on someone’s behalf to do that. That’s why if I was wondering if it was someone who had done it for a ‘brilliant laugh’. I love your session from this evening. I used to run those BAC / Steve Way-inspired sessions in the marathon build up. Thought they were bloody brilliant tbh. Always used to find the warm-down almost impossible. In those days I thought that the sign of a good session tbh!! |

Had a chuckle at that guy popping up..just the length of the numbers after his name makes me think it's a spoofer. He reminds me of the guy in one of the Inbetweeners films, the rich kid white guy with the dreadlocks from Surrey who foes travelling and battles Will. They have a whole back and forward about how he "can't lose" |

Glad you mentioned it was a B race SQ. I did wonder how monstering a 12mile session 4 days before a HM race might go down otherwise |

Cheers @Sorequads Won't be long as lots or work on. So. Got there, bit suss as my Dutch friend Eline happened to be over in Gothenburg doing hiking and camping as she is doing Swedish lessons, so met her for a curry and the next day as she had a car to get me to the stadium to get my numbers etc.. The missus knows her, so no worries there So Thurs 22nd got the shuttle bus from the main stadium (Slotts) to Bjorlanda for the heat. Bjorlanda is basically in the middle of nowhere, but a new purpose built place. Put the Bedford flag up that the missus made me take (lasted until the Sunday - although the letters came off!) Warmed up, saw Tony O'Brien as he had a medium vest for me. I was heat 1, so went off quite hard with Spanish Victor and Simon the Kenyan and the three of us moved away to qualify in 4.19-4.20. Felt hard in the wind though. Some qualified in 4.30 which was annoying. Friday 23rd - watched the V45, v40 & V45 heats. Met Simon D, who we eventually realised I had gone past in the mile race at Stratford Sat 24th - Finals day! Last race of the day. So we went off quite hard, Mark the american (1.58 800m runner) in front, I was stuck out in 5th in lane 2 - problem, and couldn't get to the inside. 68 for 400, and about 2.18 for 800. Tried and failed to get to the front before the bell, through in 3.10. Got a bit detached with 250 to go, and down to 6th with 50 to go and Brent the Scottish guy pipped me on the line, over in 4.18. Probably about right going on the season tbh. Out for a bit of food with Brent later, then met Mark Symes (M55 800 & 1500 gold medallist) for a couple more drinks Sun 25th - Ran the 6 miles to Bjorlanda with a rucksack to watch the youngsters finals. Back on bus with Andrew P from Fairlands Valley who was in the V40 race. Back in to town for football (F**k VAR!!) and a burger Mon 26th - Bit of sightseeing Tues 27th - Popped to the IFK Gothenburg ground to see if they had anything about Sven there, but nothing sadly. Good trip all in all - gutting about the passport situation and weather was pretty crap, but great to see the usual suspects. Nothing for a while now internationally, possibly see where the European indoors is in 2026. Domestically 3,000m in the Masters inter area week Saturday, then Eastern masters final the Sunday after. |
