Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

After today's torrential rain, and having walked, run and cycled through mud, on country roads, on A roads, country tracks, grass paths, bridle paths and all manner of tracks, my shoes are not up to the job.

What are the recommendations for true mixed terrain shoes that don't cost the earth?

I've very rarely heard anything good said about Karrimor (Sports Direct) shoes.

Paradoxically I wouldn't wear waterproof shoes in torrential rain. I might use them on the rare occasion like fighting through ankle length grass in an early morning with a lot of dew or after rain or for example on a long distance footpath that is overgrown. The reason being that the waterproofing will hold water in. It only breathes vapour, not water. Once the outer is sodden it won't breathe properly anyway. So in heavy weather give up and go for a shoe that drains quickly and doesn't retain water.

Waterproof shoes are hopeless apart from as Steve says keeping your feet dry in say dewy short grass. Problem is you’ll get wet feet but the water can’t get out

Inov-8 roclites with long waterproof socks if you must keep your feet dry.
Roclites are the only trail shoes that my feet can bare running on the road with. I also have New Balance Hierros, which are nice cushy shoes and supposed to be road to trail - good on wet gradd and lught trail, but they are shit in mud!

I would steer clear of Karrimor too - it used to be a very good name, but they seem to have sacrificed quality for low prices.
