Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Is there such a thing as a waterproof gilet?

Thank you to all who contributed thoughts. Seems that rummaging around a cycling site will likely produce something suitable.

Like this maybe, says waterproof for "deluge protection". I'm in Cornwall so that would be handy!

The trouble with cycling kit is that it's always long at the back but I might just have to put up with that.

Turns out Proviz offer what they tout as a waterproof gilet for running, so I took the plunge.

Excellent!
Keep us posted as to how you get on.
I find transferring kit between disciplines has always worked. My fave cycling gilet is actually a running one... And my fave running/walking waterproof is a cycling one. Go figure :)

I could have tried it out in this morning's rain had the courier delivered yesterday as promised.

This is it: provizsports.com

Anyway, it arrived just now and first impressions are good. Material is soft and not too rustly when moving. Fit is fine and I'd say M is true to size. I'm 12 stones and chest about 39-40 inches and it fits comfortably over a single running top. Would probably be a bit tight over more than one layer or thick thermals.

I run every other day so Friday is next. I'll post back when I've been out in the wet.

I haven't forgotten. But since I bought this thing it hasn't been raining on my run days. I thought I'd get a chance today but it rained overnight and is now clearing. I will get to test it in the proper wet soon, I'm sure. I am in Cornwall after all.

so what you are saying backs up my theory
being prepared for rain stops it
I've taken a coat on my last few long runs and it's stayed dry!!

It was hammering down this morning so on with the gilet and out I go. Of course, the rain eases while the watch is finding the satellites and within five minutes has passed altogether. I can however report that windproofing is good. Breathability is okay, the weather brightened up and got a little sticky but I didn't get the boil-in-the-bag effect that happens with my old jacket. Some condensation inside though. For what I paid I reckon it's pretty good. Still awaiting my chance to test it in a proper downpour.

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Maintained by Muttley
The trouble with jackets is that the sleeves get clammy inside, whether they're waterproof or not. I like a gilet in cold and wet conditions. I see plenty advertised that are wind and water resistant but can anyone recommend to me one that is properly waterproof. Good enough for a couple of hours, say. I don't go on all-day treks across moors.

Ta muchly in advance.
