Sensitive topic in the outdoor community at the mo'. Viewranger was better at offline, letting you properly choose maps. The 'nav to' worked well. So far I'm very unimpressed with outdoor active.
I have gone back to Anquet Outdoor Map Navigator as is downloads offline properly (which even the OS app struggles with). Its route stuff is pants though.
OS app is good at routes but still tries to access online tiles first and only looks for offline if there is no signal (like outdoor active I think??)

Outdoor active you have to select areas to download but they overlap rather than join up. You have to switch it to offline so not the same functionality as Viewranger.

Can anyone recommend a decent alternative to Outdooractive/Viewranger? What's Anquet like Homer?

Anquet is pretty simple. Download maps by grid area, then you have your maps and location, did ref and heading. Not many other features really. It does routes but its a bit pants. On the other hand, it comes with a windows app and a Mac app to do route planning on

Thanks Homer. I only really need decent maps and I can figure my own routes out so I’ll give it a try. Still a bit annoyed about the loss of ViewRanger though!

I have suggested Backcountry Navigator Pro Demo before. You can pick OS Maps (in the free Demo version you have to choose 'Old Maps' when looking for OS Maps but there is nothing 'old' about them). It plots your track on the map and you can output for upload to Fetch. It caches maps you use so if you'll be offline just preview the area you'll be in.

Anyone looked at Memory Map? Used it a few years back with Explorer Scouts and handheld Garmin devices. Route planning looks like it may be better than Anquet?

Is there a reason you don’t all just use the OS maps app? Do I like it because I like buying paper maps so always just download the e-version as well ? Or am I missing a big flaw with it?
