Well that was unfortunate. Anyway. Walking the WHW and also these people. Any thoughts on either? wildernessscotland.com |

I havnae done it but I think halfpint has and that she had a terrible experience with a bag carrier - but I don't think it was this one.

There's a vague plan for me to go on a walking holiday solo once a year, since S has no interest in mountains. HF would be the obvious choice - comparatively cheap as I'm a member, and I know how it works and that they are 'my' people - I tend towards the younger, commoner quadrant and feel at home. It just feels a bit 'safe'.

Not done that either, but if you're a newbie to long distance paths and don't want to stray too far or too hard, peddles way and the North Norfolk Coast us great. You could go mad and carry your own kit. We have a tendency to use Contours in the UK, a tad pricey but we like a hike PLUS creature comforts. NEVER had a single problem and used them several times now. Hadrians Wall, SWCP, Cleveland Way, Ridgeway etc |

Ah - they seem to be self-guided. I've also looked at Intrepid but they seem to be targeting a younger crowd and look eye-wateringly expensive. |

I have indeed done the WHW. It’s easy to navigate and well signposted throughout. I had a nightmare with a company and ultimately booked all my own accommodation and used baggage freedom for luggage transfer. The WHW page has loads of info re itineraries and accommodation if you want to save some money and make your own arrangements.
