Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Envy Fergus, hearing "To here knows when" for the first time was mindmelting.

Got through the first two tracks thinking 'hmm, this is a bit too experimental sounding', but then found myself increasingly enjoying it on the first listen. It'll definitely get another couple of listens this afternoon and this evening.

Moving into the 1990s, these are my choices of Besteveralbums by acts whose LPs I've never owned before...

1990 - Depeche Mode, Violator. Slightly surprised that I've never owned a DM record. Looking forward to this, and going to see them in November!

1991 - My Bloody Valentine, Loveless. Renowned "shoegazing" classic but I'm not really looking forward to listening to 45 mins of guitar feedback.

1992 - Rage Against the Machine, album of the same name. No idea what to expect with this one.

1993 - Wu-Tang Clan, Enter the Wu-Tang. My preconception is this is the worst type of hip-hop - all gangs, shootings and "ho's"

1994 - Weezer, Weezer (the blue album). Aren't these the ones behind that Buddy Holly / Marylin Monroe song?

1995 - Alanis Morissette, Jagged Little Pill. Should be a laff a minute...

1996 - Belle and Sebastian, If you're feeling sinister. Nothing wrong with a bit of finely-crafted Scotspop.

1997 - Elliott Smith, Either/or. Nope, haven't a scooby.

1998 - Neutral Milk Hotel, In the areoplane over the sea. See 1997.

1999 - Flaming Lips, The soft bulletin. Looking forward to this.

I think the Wu-Tang Clan might be the one that I had to abandon as too potty-mouthed for my sensitive ears

My bloody valentine isn't 45 minutes of feedback, and will seem quite mild to modern ears :-). Elliott Smith is beatlesque sad songs, that can seem unremarkable, but stick under the skin. Have fun, some good records on the list...

I love the expression "potty-mouth", it always makes me laugh for some reason.

Nothing modern about my ears, Chrisull. I'm getting towards the age when the ears start to grow but at the same time become less effective.

1992 RATM = Potty-mouth.

Their 2009 Christmas number one passed you by, Fitz?

It did, Dvorak. I was aware of a campaign (was it to keep a Cowell-clone off the top?) but I certainly couldn't hum it to you. Possibly because it was too potty-mouthed for radio?
