I'm not an expert on the calcs, but the people calculating them know what they're doing (certainly Russ Tucker, Vayer, @ammattipyöräily do), and they benchmark against known reading to make sure their estimates are reasonable. Obviously some may calculate different numbers, and the media may conflate them which will confuse the public (eg. the Watts/kg number Sky were talking about was different from what French TV were talking about).
The real issue is what to make of the number. Not sure is no reason to constantly attack Froome imo.

Today's power reading for the "record time " climb is quite ordinary. 5.69 W/kg. Previously holder was Sastre and then Pinot. They had a tail wind which would have helped.

I think that's rally my point, SPR. The numbers indicate an exceptional performance but not an impossible one. Also no failed tests for froome or for any sky rider as far as I'm aware(and I know there were none for Pharmstrong either) and it just looks to me that if you want to make doping accusations there are more obvious targets.

It's the winner's curse, Nibali got questioned last year as well, and previous winners have been quizzed as well. But as I said earlier, some of the fuel to it this year is most likely a dislike of Froome and Sky.

I don't recall Nibali taking stick like this last year (although when Froome crashed out I didn't pay quite so much attention to it).

Will the French teams ever learn anything from SKY/British cycling and actually produce a rider capable of winning the tour in the next decade?

Yes, that's what I mean about fuel. Froome is getting more because he and Sky are disliked. There's also people questioning whether Sky are as transparent as they said they would be.
Nibali didn't get as much stick certainly from the public, but he never climbed as well as Froome on stage 10 so there weren't as many questions about his performances. Most of the questions he got were the in press conferences.
But also even if he did get as much stick, it wouldn't feel as much given he's Italian and we're in the UK so it wouldn't get as much coverage.
