Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

there is a tick remover in my first aid kit - because I always carried one with the dog.

Dave - just to confirm I'm lurking. I don't think anyone is quite ready for * that * story prior to the race :-)

p.s. just FYI the consensus in the Lakes is that this is an extremely bad year for ticks and I have to concur, I've had loads of the little bastards stick to me this year. Apart from a tick remover, I also carry surgical wipes with me (i.e. what you'd use prior to an injection). Smidge does seem to keep them at bay btw.

glad smidge works on something, 'cos local midges seem immune.

Not had one (I've noticed!) yet this year. Most of the course is on well-established paths so the risk should not be too high.

And if I'm sweating like I was last weekend they'll get washed off before they can get their teeth in!

Thanks for the reminder I need more surgical wipes!

The people unable to read the competitor notes have been joined by the virtual event selfie posters on the Facebook group. Hopefully I won’t miss any important updates …

Loads of ticks most years on the Quantocks and Exmoor and I rarely seem to go a year without collecting at least one. I have always resorted to ordinary tweezers and, if necessary, a bit of a dig around with a needle afterwards. Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable tick removal tool (for humans, not dogs and cats - if they are even different!)?

amazon.co.uk

but we've had equal success with a disposable plastic fork when that's all that was to hand. The card ones
amazon.co.uk

are supposed to be good too

NDWDave, probably best just to read the emails from the Race Director! ;-)

I've got that LifeSystems card one, and it seems to work most of the time.
