are those the trails you can see from the main road as you drive down the A10 from Cambridge? I've often wondered about trying those out.
Dave - I've already suggested that idea for next year, as I need to do it to strengthen up the quads (the descents in the first half are quite significantly worse than the second (longer and rougher). As you say, gym work can do something to improve strength but it generally is a controlled motion rather than the irregular impact you tend to get on a proper descent.
Anyone up for booking a house and having a one or two of long weekends/weeks training next spring?

There also appears to be some trails with reasonable ups and downs around Harlton & Haslingfield that are a bit nearer home that could be made into a nice looped repeat. However again I suspect they are more grassy hills rather than proper lakeland descents.
The only way to get proper hill running practice is going to be to run on proper hills.
