Hello everyone. During lockdown, I've started doing weights. How do people record what they're doing (on here or elsewhere)? Is there a useful place that names all the different moves, so I can list them accurately?
I've been essentially doing the same routine most days (5 or 6 days a week), one round of reps with a mixture of 1.5/3/5 kg dumbells, and 8/12/16 kg kettlebells. Some I've been able to up the weight gradually, the below is roughly what I've been doing (with hopefully descriptive names). Feel free to suggest some things to add.
"Witcher" triple arm raises x 10, 1.5 kg (something I saw Henry Cavill doing which is apparently good for sword fighting) Standing bicep curls x 12, 3 kg or x 6, 5 kg (straight and with a rotation) Standing tricep curls x 10, 3 kg Standing single arm dumbell presses x 10, 3 kg (straight and with a rotation) Shoulder raises x 10, 8 kg KB Side bends x 10, 8 kg KB Wall squat x 30 s, 0 kg Plank x 15 s, 0 kg Sumo squat x 16, 8 x 12 kg, 8 x 16 kg KB swing x 10, 8 kg Forward lunge x 10, 3/5/8 kg depending on how I feel Bent forward rows x 16, 1.5 kg Bent forward flys x 16, 1.5 kg Bent forward bicep and triceps x 16, 1.5 kg
Ooft that's an impressive list I use an app called 'FitNotes' to record my workouts on my phone - it's got lots of the usual exercises pre-listed, split into the appropriate body sections, but you can also add exercises to it yourself. I do also have a good old fashioned notebook as well though, which I've been using to record the run-up to SSW.
I did an interesting 'compass' KB/lunge medley that killed my legs - hold the KB bottom up like for a goblet squat, then start with a feet-together (hindu) squat, then a forward lunge, then back to feet together squat, side lunge, feet together squat, back lunge, feet together squat and then repeat with the other leg! Love a good KB swing, goblet squat and turkish get ups as well
I confess to quite liking Turkish getups. Another good trick is to do it holding a water bottle with the lid off - prevents you from losing form as you do it. If your arm lowers, you spill the water.
Oh man, the water bottle sounds evil, Cath I quite enjoy doing two-handed anyhows - get two KBs (one lighter/around half the weight of the other), clean and press the larger KB overhead, and whilst keeping it overhead, get the smaller KB above your head as well (anyhow you can!).
