Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Brilliant, decorum :)

Drell, the only reason I can think of for knitting a jumper bottom-up rather than top-down is ... erm ... nope ... oh, yes ... no, scratch that ... um, maybe if you're knitting a monstrous man-cosy and don't want two kilograms of knitting on your lap while you're working on the cuff of the second sleeve. Some of the design pseuds on Ravelry go on about how raglan shaping is never quite perfect top down. I'm sitting here wearing a top-down raglan that I knitted on the wing, and it's plenty good enough for me.

Lovely, decorum!

Thanks v'rap. I was wondering if there was something I'd missed. For me, I think it's partly a question of consistent tension. My tension tends to settle down as I go through a project, so doing the body first and then the sleeves means that there's a good chance the sleeves will be roughly the same. I'd be a lot more worried about that if I did the sleeves at the beginning. Though of course bottom up you could do body, then sleeves, and if you were so inclined, do both the sleeves at once, like I did last century.

Thanks all :-) .

I wondered whether to post as the things I do don't seem to be mentioned (opinion based on skim reading the thread).

I really should search out a rather loud pouch I made up a fair while back ... did I mention that it's a bit ... _LOUD_? :-)

I am very last century and currently knitting both sleeves at the same time for a jumper. They have 116 stitches in each and a mock cable pattern and each row takes forever...

Help! I've just started knitting some sleeves. I've done the first two rows in k. I then have to change to 4mm needles and work the pattern as the back. Does this mean that I start with the first row immediately after the 2x2 rib for the back ie the p4, p2tog etc and then the NEXT row starts the pattern proper. Or start with the proper pattern? Sorry for the ask - I'm being very dense!

If you are now on the right side (finished rib with a wrong side row then 2 rows of knit - right side, wrong side) then you would start with the right side of the pattern.

Any craft is lovely to see Decorum, and the ones we don't do might get an awful lot of appreciative ooohs and aaahs!

Gnome wants more socks!

Email at 3am saying they're great for work more please. Happy mum!
I'd already decided to slowly replace my shop socks as they are more comfy. Which is good given the amount of sock yarn I now have!
