Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Agree with Nellers (although he hasn't seen how I use my bungies!) ;-)

The world has moved on from bungies :)

Nellers is right. Shock cord is brilliant for the job. Is the back of the boat compartmented, or do need airbags for there as well?

Buoyancy bags successfully installed in both Green and Orange Piglets :-)
The back has a sealed bulkhead with a tight-fitting rubber hatch cover - which would probably come off if wrapped around with a rope and in a rough sea; however the chances of me being out in such conditions are limited! The 1* coach has already worked out that I'm not in it for the whitewater..

Those hatch covers are very tough. I spent last night in the river, teaching rescue techniques. It's quite warm in there at present :)

The top foot of river is certainly nice and warm at the moment! I have tested it accidentally a few times during the 1* sessions, and the coach has just emailed me to say FFS just man-up and pay-up for the 2* starting next week - so here we go!

Rescue techniques - this week I observed someone pulling an inverted kayak through the water while the paddler completed a roll and recovery. I assume that'll be 3* or some local witch-finding technique ;-)

We use ducks on scales round here. Much less flawed.

I have to post this comment after all my hand-wringing earlier in the thread... Controlled capsize in the river - no biggy is it? :-)

:-D

It really isn't. I'm finding (as a coach) that inserting the line "when we've stopped laughing, we'll come and get you" into the capsize briefing does a lot to get that message over.
