Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sorry Nellers I thought I had replied to you - I was absolutely fine the next day, I don't think I've ever suffered much after rowing apart from when I used to row on a Friday evening and then regret it at a hilly parkrun the next morning because my legs objected to running uphill.

Back on it today and managed what I usually think of as my minimum acceptable average split, 2:30, though once upon a time I'd have considered that an easy session rather than ending up a sweaty mess. I'll stick with this for the rest of the month then think about mixing things up a bit once I've got into a routine. Will check out the Rowalong stuff.

And looks like I should venture into updating PM5 firmware but I definitely don't have the right cable and it's a long long time since I used a flash drive - not sure I even have one!

I emailed our gym to ask about a firmware update on their C2s, as the first time I connected my phone it mentioned that it might not work with the version that was installed. They were a bit non-committal; "It's got to come from head office, we're not allowed to do stuff like that ourselves." Oh well, the app works OK without the firmware update, it seems, so I'm not going to moan.

When I used the local gym (before I got my own C2) I had a similar response so I downloaded the firmware update into a flash drive and did it anyway. I don’t think they ever knew any different.

2 x 8 min @ r26 with a 4 min rest this morning before work. That was a struggle.

Not sure if it was tired legs from the run last night idle just trying to hit intensity in the morning but I struggled to get the paces I wanted. Didn’t feel like I had the push in my legs.

I struggle to do anything at that time of the morning :-)

I need to have at least two or three cuppas and some porridge and toast for breakfast before I can even contemplate exercise.

I tried doing my run or erg session early before work a few times. Starting my shift I felt energized and really good .... and then deflated big time after lunch and decided that it wasn't for me!

First thing in the morning is the best time for me. I go out before my brain wakes up enough to start making excuses. I get up at 04:00 when I go to the gym. I like doing my exercise when the gym is almost empty, although at this time of year, it is starting to get busy around 05:30. I will admit to sometimes having a short nap after work on the 04:00 days, though.

4am is a bit extreme, quimby! Is that purely for the gym or because of work shifts or something?

I can get up at 6 and be done and in the office by 9 quite comfortably. I just find the high intensity stuff tricky on the rower in the mornings. I'm fine doing intervals or a spin class on the bike some mornings, though, without too much difficulty.

I start work at 07:00, and I have to drive 15 mins to the gym, so I generally leave around 04:20, have an hour or so at the gym, a short walk to defeat the Pokémon Go gyms by the gym (double gym visit!), then back home for a shower, breakfast and start work from home. If I'm going for a run, I can have a bit more of a lie in. :)

I'm not yet compos mentis at those times, good grief!

One other thing that I have to make sure I have attended to is the, ahem, morning constitutional, especially if I'm going for a run. I've learned that the hard way.
