Careful with that. It can get quite addictive chasing the rankings.

Made friends with the C2 again last night after ignoring it for two years. I reckon I'm as unfit now as when we bought it in 2003, but that'll change if I manage to use it 3 or 4 times a week. |

It definitely will, sallykate. Stick with it. How are you feeling today after your exertions yesterday?

EotD, I'm not sure how your time would fit in those rankings if you're using a different machine. I wonder if there's a conversion calculator anywhere, although probably not. Useful to chart progress though, I suppose. I was going to go for a run today but then realised that I was due a rest day so decided to have a pop on the erg instead. Not very restful though: 4 x 8 mins at 4 mins 2k+12 then 4 mins at 2k+5, with 2:30 rests. Like most of Mr Rowalong's workouts, nicely calibrated to leave me breathing heavily and sweating profusely but not wasted. |

Ha - so much for "rest" day Muttley! That's a good workout - he talked once about cooking a frog - gradually turning the heat up and the frog stays in the pot, but straight into hot water and the frog would jum out. Gradually ramping it up makes it possible. Disclaimer: cooking frogs in hot water doesn't sound nice, please don't do it. I missed a few days since I spent Saturday being a lumberjack (a friend with a chainsaw came round) and splitting logs with a spike and sledgehammer gave me bad tendonitis in my right forearm. It's just stopped squeaking weirdly. Enough to persuade me to get some metres in yesterday, with a foundation row (10k at 22spm, an easy 2k+18). Today's row was more spicy, with 5x6min at 28spm and and a massive 5 minutes for each rest. All explained in the Rowalong video. I'm going for the 2k playlist from Rowalong for the next four weeks and then a bash at the 2k PB. Early March... |

Strangely enough, I count any session on the rower as a rest day from running. If I'm doing it right, the rower stroke is 60% legs, the rest being torso and arms equally. So if I cover 10k on the rower, even energetically, it counts as only 6k on the road. But without the impact. That's my reasoning, anyway. |

I reckon it’s proportionally less than that compared to running, Muttley. The impact element with running has more…….erm……well, impact than most regular runner realise.

Oh, and I was on 3 x 3 min @ r28/ 3 min rest last night. R28 got me about 1:49.7 or so average across the 3 pieces. I think this rate-based training is suiting me. The 2km I did at the weekend was at r28 average too. I suspect that race by rate will increase a bit as my fitness goes up. |
