That's so annoying McG. I'm with Sallykate though. I don't think I'd be motivated to do it if it was just a case of "20 minutes rowing" without knowing how fast/far etc. That £130 is a good investment if you can stretch to it.
I got another hour steady state done this morning after 2km of unstrapped feet rowing. I'd tried the unstrapped thing way back in my early days and found it incredibly difficult to stay balanced and on the seat. Certainly wasn't able to put in any power.
My tekkers must have come along a bit because now I can do similar splits unstrapped as I can strapped, at least at "steady state/Level 4" sort of paces. Not sure if it's helping my technique overall but it's an interesting exercise.
Interesting question BanjoBax. I dont really know. Did you see the video about the "force Curve" and how to interpret that to smooth out how you apply power through the stroke? I'd guess that a higher average is better than a higher peak but Im not sure.
I found trying to tweak the curve was easier by visualising where it needed to be next stroke, focussing on adjusting technique itself produced some strange shapes
Is it just me, or do the sessions where you have to talk yourself into saddling up the erg usually turn out to be good ones? Had to motivate myself into 8 x 500 with 3-min rests this morning but ended up knocking a second off the average time per rep with what felt like plenty left in the tank (didn't want to overdo it with the target for next time). Satisfying.
Sometimes that's the case, Muttley, yes. Not always for me. Sometimes I'm glad Ive done those sessions afterwards but during it's just a slog!
BanjoBax, that's a really interesting observation about how to improve the stroke. Next time I'll give that a try and see how it works. I guess it's like steering your bike where you look rather than looking at what you want to miss? Maybe?
10k steady for me this morning. I kept it pretty controlled and didn't do quite such a massive burnup at the end!
Good news re fixing the leak, McG. Hope you get the monitor sorted soon. I’m another who’s with you on “no data = no session”.
Sounds like good progress on technique, BanjoBax. I’ve picked up some bad habits recently I think, so am planning to go back and play with the force curve again soon.
Just a short session from me today, trying to row unstrapped. It really seemed to help with technique and the pace didn’t seem to drop off much (I was just doing a warm-down after a treadmill run). I could feel that I was leaning less at both ends of the stroke, which I think is a good thing, but it seemed to work my hamstrings and hips a lot more. Is that anyone else’s experience?
