Bright but unambitious introvert, well balanced (chip on both shoulders). Thought I looked like Che but now realise I looked much more like Charles Manson

Specky, fat, socially awkward, geeky, cripplingly shy, then, eventually, drunk. Drink allowed me to take down my barriers, or at least not feel as though everyone was laughing at me. In hindsight, they were probably laughing more.

Academically, I did what I needed to do, rather than what I could do.

Crap at sport, although I carved out a niche as a goalkeeper because a) it meant I wasn't picked last and b) it meant I didn't have to run far. Quite liked a bit of cricket, but didn't care for having hard objects thrown at me and wasn't ever invited for cricket trials at school because those were only made known to the rugby XV; which I couldn't be in because of the first two words of this description.

To be fair, 30 years later, the first seven words still apply, although there was a blissful few years when I wasn't fat.

Nice DG, I suspect you and most others are being unduly harsh on ourselves and weren't "as bad" as we are making out.

Confidence is something I've always struggled with, despite appearances at times ;-), my mum recently sent me a picture and I can only wish I still looked like that :-) and realised that perhaps I wasn't an ugly duckling.

Self perception is a funny old thing, I often think I would really like to know what people really think of me...but maybe its best I don't know

Outwardly a studious apprentice who went to day-release classes and studied engineering to HNC level then married young (21) and took on a mortgage and all that goes with that. But in reality, a weekend hippy who used to hitch-hike to festivals (IOW, Reading etc.), went to lots of concerts and was much happier in my home-made tie-dye 'grand-dad' vest and loon pants than the trousers/shirt/tie combo I 'had' to wear. Not sure I've ever left those rebellious urges behind - still enjoy shocking people with some of the things I do that I'm not 'supposed' to because apparently I'm too old at 68.

The youngest photo I have of myself in "My Gallery" on Fetch. 1989, so I would be 23.

I took 8 wickets that day, against Gedling Colliery. I thought I was better than every one else. I might well have been, but we still lost. Almost certainly ended up drunk that night.
