We repeated a broken 500m set that my squad last did in April and I took over a minute off my time! I've been working a lot on technique, but didn't realise I'd improved that much!

So I've discovered that my local pool will be closed until the new year for some maintenance* (I knew it was going to be closed for a bit, but not for that long). I'm slightly annoyed that they couldn't have scheduled this for when it was closed most of last year.

* "...part of a £10.9m project to reduce the carbon emissions from public leisure centres..." Ok, but this is a new pool, only built a couple of years ago. Foresight, anyone?

Have you got an alternative venue Oranj? We have the same annual goal; you are frustratingly close of not.

I've only just got back into swimming after my pool reopened post-lockdown and building work. I would be gutted if it closed, so you have my sympathies.

4 x 300m this morning and then some drills.

There is another pool a little further away but it's smaller and checking this morning most slots are filled for the next week or so. I'm going to have to get on their booking site promptly.

Yes, I've logged 78.85km this year, out of a target of 80km, I was hoping to use the remainder of the year to practice a bit more technique rather than just thrashing up and down the lanes. There are local swim spots in rivers and bathing places, but I won't log much distance in the current water temperatures.

It's technique I need to get back. My swimming pretty much went to complete ratshit when I developed inflammatory arthritis over four years back, I changed my stroke to compensate for the restricted movement and when the range of movement returned I was left with a rubbish stroke and poor style that has been difficult to change. At the moment I'm seriously engaged on correcting this and it's been slow, slow, slow. :-(

Painful too, I have to say.
