A mile should be about 15 minutes walk, even if you don't want to run it. Even 2 miles would only be a 30 minute stroll to get there (and back). If my little legs could even consider sprinting, and I was personally trying to avoid driving, I'd have thought that walking there would be a perfectly acceptable option in these times? Though maybe since I took up running I now have a different perspective on travelling distances.

I do actually agree with Larkim and although I can't walk a mile in 15 minutes I can in 16.45 (yes, I did measure my walk on Monday!) Is there a reason you'd rather drive Sharkie?

Sprinters are DIFFERENT ;-)

I don't drive myself these days anyway. It's steep hill and more like 1.3 to get to best bit the prom would take me at least 25 mins. I 'might' do it next week and just ask Raffo to puck me up afterwards.

Yay, I've finally found somethng I'm quicker than Gobi at ;-)

(I honestly do walk at just faster than 4mph, can't abide strolling slowly!)

In winter mine used to train more like middle distance runners to aid recovery between efforts but they still were not great at a cool down after a HARD session :¬)

I believe I *can* walk faster than I usually run. Not a fair comparison, I know. I may test walking for a mile round the track this week.

Larks - if I have time to walk then why would I want be brisk and waste energy and can use training ? If I need to be somewhere I drive :¬)

Covid-19 case numbers continue to rise exponentially in the UK.

It is even more crucial to do everything we can to slow the rate of onset of new cases. Nonetheless, exercise remains important for our health.

The relevant piece of the legislation in England is:

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020

Restrictions on movement

6.—(1) During the emergency period, no person may leave the place where they are living without reasonable excuse.

(2) For the purposes of paragraph (1), a reasonable excuse includes the need—

(a) to obtain basic necessities, including food and medical supplies for those in the same household (including any pets or animals in the household) or for vulnerable persons and supplies for the essential upkeep, maintenance and functioning of the household, or the household of a vulnerable person, or to obtain money, including from any business listed in Part 3 of Schedule 2;

(b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

Similar regulations apply in Scotland, where section 8, (5) (b) states:
(b) to take exercise, either alone or with other members of their household.
In Northern Ireland, section 5 (2) (b) is the same:
(b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

In Wales, the regulations state that you can leave the house no more than once a day for exercise, The relevant section [section 8] states:

(b) to take exercise, no more than once a day, either alone or with other members of the household.
