Hello mags! Definitely listen to your hip and back off if needed. I’ve had to listen to my knee over this summer so Yorkshire marathon is now a 10 miler and I’m ok with that. Running about 20 miles a week at the moment and that feels fine - nothing complaining! I’ve been doing a lot of strength work and I’m sure that’s helped loads. Onwards

This feed is great. I had to give up running about two years ago due to increasing hip pain. I had my THR about a week ago, although the surgeon is against me returning to running. After reading this I may do a couch to 5k.

Hi, Bignose! Hope your recovery after the surgery goes well. I had a hip resurfacing op in February 2003. It was life changing for me because the hip had been damaged in a childhood roller skating accident and hadn't healed properly. I took up running during the summer after the op to improve the muscle tone in my legs because the walking I was doing didn't seem to be doing that. Since then I've run loads of races, including 2 marathons and 53 half marathons.

I had THR in 2016 and started running again after about 4 months using C25K. Life changing for me too. I forget I have a new hip - it never crosses my mind!

Just awaiting consultant's letter, hopefully booked in for THR in late December. Currently a mix of nervousness and relief. Of course to celebrate seeing the consultant today my hip is kicking off.

Great news! You're bound to be nervous but it'll make such a difference. I still remember the day after my op in February 2003 when I got up and walked, pain free, first time in a very long time. It was brilliant!

I nearly cried with joy when my (new) consultant said I needed a THR! I’d had 2 1/2 years of almost constant pain by that time and I’d had enough. First few weeks post op aren’t fun tbh but after that … life changing!

Yes lots of bridges and core (as long as it doesn’t hurt too much) will help a lot with rehab afterwards. Hope you get the date soon GOTD

Bridges and planks done this morning - along with other stuff. They definitely help with walking at the moment. Many thanks!
