Short run today 3.75 miles WHR 60% this included walk back recoveries when i did my strides at the end of the run
Split time Avg. HR
10:15 126 (57%)
9:57 136 (64%)
9:48 139 (65%)
9:16 119 (52%)

Did a 5km yesterday in the rain and wind, real horrible @82%WHR

Tomorrow i have a half, flat course thinking i should run it to HR i did Brentwood at 158HR (78% WHR) which felt ok maybe 160 tops any thoughts

Well done everyone - I am astounded at the number of people who can run at 60% for these quick paces. How does that translate to your PB's pammie?

I have never run a HM using HR Pammie so not sure. Are you sure you want to push it hard this close to FLM?

Not got that many pbs since doing this LHR training, as i haven't raced that much, just 2 x mile 3 x 5km and 1 x half mar

My half i did at Brentwood 158 avg (78%) 9:06 avg pace
Mile 7:43 164 avg (82%)
5km best this year 163 (81%) not a pb pb was at a much higher HR it will get there as the only time i've gone over 80% has been in races so no speedwork. Once i start that hopefully i'll get more pbs. Please

Pammie - For a half marathon you should be able to hold 82-85%!
By half pb (in training for FLM '06) was not run all out (as it wasn't the target race) and I averaged 82% WHR for it.
And that was with no speed training!
Often the thing stopping you from holding a higher HR is your head - you tell yourself that you can't - and Lo and Behold - you can't!
With a sound endurance base, you should be able to maintain this HR for the distance!
78% is IMHO, a conservative HR for a marathon, let alone a Half!

Ah, didn't reckon on London.

Don't scupper London!

Personally two weeks out I'd jog the half, but that's just me.

Thanks el Bee, Hendo and Lums , thought you'd be pleased with my nice, low heart rate!

I wouldn't be risking it for London either. I suppose it depends what you think is more important but I dont think you'll be fully recovered for the FLM if you go all out for a hm two weeks beforehand.

Im with Hendo on this one.

Anyway good luck tomorrow Pammie!

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
