Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It is a pretty undulating course Lums, maybe we would have another crack next week but slow it down a touch to your 10m race pace, see if we can manage 5m at that and see how you feel at the end of it.

It's a plan Joopsy - would have to be Monday or Tuesday though as I intend to taper a bit as it is my first race.

And you think 7:45 is NOT my 10m race pace - what gave it away?

I could do Sunday if you wanted to give yourself plenty of time. Gives me time to recover from my 22 on Friday.

Witham to Heybridge via the Sea Wall

12 miles 9.35 pace 62% WHR <p>

Took my Car in for servicing this morning, decided to do my planned 12 mile run from there back home

Ate Breakfast after I got up about 7.30, took the Car in, started the run back about 8.45. First 2.5 miles were run through witham to the Golf Course. Stomach started playing up running along the footpath by the river through the Golf Course. Had to do an emergency stop for Number two's. Carried on along the river to meet the Old Railway line. A second emergency stop was soon required for the same purpose.

By now I was a peed off so had it in my mind to take the shortest route home, which would be about 7.5 miles, started to feel a bit better at about 7, bypassed the short cut. It was now a minimum of 10.5. I had by now run to the end of the railway line and joined the canal, staying on the canal past 7.5 towards the Sea Wall

By now I had decided I was going to do the full 12 as originally planned. Got on to the Tarmac on the Sea wall at about 9.5 and decided to push it a bit, and immediately knew that Emergency stop 3 was required. Jogged for a while and decided to go for it!

Ran last 2 miles at sub 8.30 75% WHR. Marathon Goal pace is 8.30

Tummy still not feeling good as I write this after a bath.

Is cycling (in the gym) easier than running?

The reason I ask is I set my HRM to the Recovery Zone and went up the gym but it felt like I had to try much harder to get my heart rate up on the cycle than if I were running

Good run Bob, you're looking good for your marathon matey.

It uses less muscles than running, so requires less blood flow.

About This Thread

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
