I usually have a cup of tea as usual then slurp water until after a race. Can't say it's made much difference to my performance though- still down the back of the pack!

I drink coffee before races, but I always drink coffee so it doesn't make a difference. I believe pre-race caffeine is supposed to improve performance in people who aren't regular coffee-drinkers

Before a race I would have a cuppa tea with breakfast Lucozade Sport in the hour before the race (+ banana) SiS Gel just before the start.

Well done WGT, sounds like a very pleasant trot.
I've been loitering in the shadows for the last two weeks, nursing an annoying cough, but managed to race today. Clearly something has been going right on the training front - 3K race: 10.45; avg hr 90% (178 ). 14 seconds off last month's effort. And 3rd place in the 3 race series - my first prize ever (apart from school!). Hurrah! Though it feels more like a prize for turning up to the three races, but hey, it all counts.

Bob!
Well chuffed with my run today,
My first run after a 3 week lay-off was a 6 miler using the sub 70% = easy method. I ran it in 1.04.04. Then on Monday 6 miles T 1.02.58.
This evening I ran a 6 miler sub 70% over a similar course at 1.00.22.

Have just done my first HR training on a treadmill. Took a while for my HR to reach 70% and so average was just 65% for the session. Curiously, my average pace was 5.21/KM - a big drop from my usual 7 to 7.30 pace outdoors. When I reached 70% I was at a pace of 12 km/hr (i.e. 5 mins/km). I expected some difference in pace from being away from the elements, but not that much. Is this normal? Should treadmills be avoided when doing HR training? Are they inaccurate in measuring distance??? So many questions...

Anoushka, i think with TM's you need to elevate them slightly (1%) to give you a more realistic effect.
I noticed a huge difference between running on a TM and coming back onto the roads 7:17 to 8:17 m/m. i didn't have any incline on the TM.

I did my first race today since doing Parker's methods for the past six or seven weeks and it seems to be working!
I did 5 miles in 34:40 so just less than 7.00/mile, that is the fastest I have been over any distance to date. My average hr was 176bpm(my max is 192) and max for the race was 188bpm.
I'll be sticking with Parker for now!
