My Polar has just froze tonight. I had some funny readings on it then it just froze completely. I've reset it now and its fine. Its the second time it has done it but the last time was a few months ago. Hopefully this will sort it out for a while. It wouldn't have been that bad if it just messed up my heart rate but I didnt know how long I took either!

another reason for mad readings is the battery wearing out .... i got between 40 and 260 when my battery last went!

Been re-taking my RHR since NY to see if it has made a difference. Think it must have as the lowest figure I Have seen now is 47 this morning from a previous of 48. I did spot it as low as 37-40, but must have nodded off again this morning, so don't believe that for a start!

Will continue taking it till the end of the week to see if it can go any lower.

Does this mean that the marathon has improved my fitness?

Well done WGT, sounds like you could be at the start of an improvement streak!

Had a look, a lot of your runs are more hilly than where I run though. Hopefully this si the start of a good streak. If you look at mine from May June they were'nt very good but by July I had turned the corner( or gone round the bend!!) and they started improving.

Do it gradually though- too much too soon will only end up with you getting hurt. I did drop one session, back to 3 as it was aggravating my ankle/calf. I'm goign to try again with 4 from Jan, but introduce it more gently with just a short tempo run .

Hi folks. I've not been fetching much lately so no doubt I've missed loads here. Still injured but hopefully getting a bone scan on my stress fracture :-)

WTG - your mileage has shot up for Novemeber. Be careful you don't overdo it. With mileage increasing you will be getting heavy legs and having some slow runs. It will pass in time as you get used to it. My pace depends a lot on which route I run - because it's hillier on some routes compared with others!

IanR- my Polar has done that twice too, but less than once a year so I guess it's OK.

I used it again last night and it was fine. Im hopefully getting a Garmin 305 for Christmas. So as long as it lasts 'til then I'll be happy.

I've got my first race tomorrow since I started training by Parker's Methods so it will be interesting to see what happens. Its also my first race in two months so I cant wait.

Good luck IanR, hopefully it will have made a difference!

Took my RHR again today, got a new Min!- 44- it did briefly hover around 43, but for now I'm taking 44, which mean my new 70% is 147bpm from 148bpm so shouldn't make much difference in training.
Definitely taking this as a sign I am a fitter bird!

Thanks Girlie. Definitley looks like you are getting fitter.

What do any of you normally drink before a race? Do any of you drink caffeine?

Its supposed to help but I normally just have Lucozade Sport.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
