I wouldn't expect that to happen, although it's not something I've given particular thought to. My notion is that you'd have to be pretty far from the centre of the curve before it became a factor in itself.

Morning. I asked a few months ago but didn’t get an answer. Can anyone recommend a decent source of information , online or book, to assist with HR training? |

Not really an answer for you, but are you asking for guidance on how you should use HR to guide training, or how you should train to "improve" heart rate? Fundamentally I suppose it's a sort of MAF type training where the values for HR dictate the pace that training is done at vs training where benchmarks from race paces are the primary driver for the paces that training is done at. philmaffetone.com would be a decent starting point for the MAF stuff I guess? |

I’ve been HR training since October. Using WHR as my guide, trying to run within zone 2. I’ve seen improvements in pace within the zone. What I’m after now is looking at what I can do and how I can do it in order to improve further. |

I could pay a coach, but I’m a tight git. Next step is to read about it, test, work out what works for me.

Dave A I'd suggest accumulating volume is the main bonus of zone 2 training, how many miles a week have you built up to? It looks like you have a 50 mile ultra in the plan, so I'd probably just continue building mileage in zone 2. If you're looking at improving your paces maybe add in one or 2 quality sessions like increasing length blocks of Tempo/Threshold running or simply ending a couple runs a week with 30 second strides. For the ultra I'd say you're best off building that zone 2 volume, especially if the paces are improving. If you start to see them plateau then mix it up a bit. |
