A word of warning DeeGee. The clip on the cover of the battery holder is a bit fragile so be careful when you're putting the batteries (which are included) into the torch

For what they cost it's worth buying a Gamma to stick in the kitchen drawer or the glove-box of your car for emergencies ;-)

I've used the alpkit one for a few years (including loads of woodland runs) and it is a great piece of kit-especially for the money . I have had issues with the battery pack tho and it's not the easiest of changes. I've have anothr petzl and found it no better than the alpkit. However I changed this year to a petzl myro xp for a few reasons.

First i was in front of someone in the lakeland 100 and the myro was that bright i was cast into shadow (tbh i would not want any brighter) , second the alpkit battery change was pissing me of (finding it hard to get the clip into place) and third the battery change on the myro has really been thought about and is so much easier. In fact i don't think ive ever seen easier.

I bought it from go -outdoors. I never heard of them before but have to say after buying a jacket on the net from them and taking it back (to big) into a store for a refund they could not have been more helpful and efficent . You have to buy a £5-00 discount card but with it their prices are hard ot beat. I'lll still use my alpkit (after all i've been happy enough for long enough with it )or as the Tup says , keep it in the car for backup.

the petzl myro xp £48-00 . gooutdoors.co.uk

I got my hrm from go outdoors got decent service from them. i have no idea if its suitable for running (probably not due to a very narrow head strap) but i quite fancy the petzl e+LITE, after i almost blinded myself with one the other week. what can i say there was a petzl stand in the angling store i was getting the OHs christmas pressie from and i was looking to see how bright they were (ok i was button pressing) and the light on it was really bright, it has a red light too, various flashing sequences and a whistle on it. i may end up getting one for the car (seeing as the aforementioned OH keeps pinching my torches and not putting them back).

Alpkit arrived less than 24 hours after ordering it!

Wore it today across the recreation ground and on the path behind the council estate (glamorous routes, I know).

Wow!

Just need to work on where best to point the beam, now.

DeeGee, running after dark with a headtorch is highly addictive and opens up all kinds of training opportunities. A group from my club (me included) has been running on a Wednesday evening for five or six winters now and it's often the highlight (groan!) of my week :-)

I'm just about to order a LED Lenser H7R; I've seen a couple of recommendations here and on the FRA site. Anybody here actually tried it?

I did consider this one too amazon.co.uk but think it might be less comfortable (but bike mount might come in useful). Unfortunately I can't quite stretch to a Hope at the moment.

I used a borrowed LED Lenser H7R on part of my Bob Graham last May. It wasn't as bright as a Hope but it was much lighter and more comfortable to wear
