Dvorak
Looking at that long list of races: how on earth did nobody ring the alarm earlier? Yes, Gps errors etc and you put trust in an official measurer but did no organiser map out their courses or run round on their own bikes (which may not be calibrated to the same standard but could be close enough to show a definite error) and just say "this really seems to be wrong"?

I'd agree Dvorak (incidentally there's a Dvorak Festival at the Bridgewater Hall atm!) - when we had to change the course for the Birchwood 10k a couple of years ago, as a club we ran it several times pre- and post measurement with assorted GPS devices. I appreciate it might be less attractive to do that for marathons but there does seem to have been an element of ostrich behaviour on the part of race organisers.

Actually I disagree about ostrich behaviour here - I think as a race provider they're entitled to trust the official measuring body (and clearly lots of other race providers in the north west have done the same) GMM haven't done themselves any favours with their PR over all this but I don't blame them for that part at least.

100's of comments that the race is short over a period of years - I think that its a pretty fair comment that the orgsnisers have their head in the sand.

Has anybody else noticed that the article about the >30 short(?) courses coursemeasurement.org.uk was updated slightly yesterday. They've added commentary/notes to more of the races in the table. The fact that there is no comment against Wilmslow HM, at the top of the list, intrigues me slightly... |

Interesting comment Re: Wilmslow HM at the end of this news article about the Macclesfield HM macclesfield-express.co.uk

I've had a partial refund on our entries to the Manchester Half in October - Mr AL had responded to their email offering a discount with a 'We've already entered' - I didn't expect them to do anything retrospectively.

Really AL? I haven't had anything from them about the half and I entered a while ago. I got a rather nonsensical email from them today offering me a 'slot' to enter next year's marathon though! (I don't think there's much danger of it selling out!)

Jenny, I'm pretty sure AL is referring to the 40% discount that Xtramile gave to all of the 2016 marathon competitors to compensate for the baggage fiasco, that was valid for any of their events before the end of October, i.e. AL has had a 40% refund on her half marathon place because she entered before receiving the discount code, not that Xtramile are partially refunding everyone who has entered. I also got the email about entry into the 2017 marathon... although if you try and enter there's a message on the Rider HQ site saying they sent the email in error... but there is a strong indication of the probable 2017 race date (which is pretty much the one I was expecting). |
