Had mine done by a doctor who did a decent enough job, but his bumbling nurse knocked over the tray of equipment just before I was being stitched up and they both spent 15 - 20 minutes looking for all of the stuff that had fallen off so they could be sure it wasn't still inside. A scalpel blade was under the wheel of the bed and they couldn't find it.

AND I had to drive back to Yorkshire on one of the hottest days of the year. Let me tell you, being stuck on the M25 in rush hour when your bollocks feel like they've been flattened by a steam-hammer is no laughing matter. It's a crying matter, certainly.
The naval surgeon who did it is still high on my "kill" list. I understand he's living under an assumed name in Patagonia, I'll get the bugger one day.

I'm suspicious now. I didn't expect sympathy from you or Velociraptor, paragons of goodness though you both are

Did it work though, NE Sounds horrible!
I don't live in Norfolk or Lincolnshire but I have been happily married to my step-brother for the last 10 years. That always raises a few eyebrows. We met for the first time when we were in our 20s so it's not as if we grew up together or anything though.
I also decided NOT to stay with my ex for the sake of our children (who were 3 and 18 months when I left him). I remembered clearly all the angst I experienced when my parents' marriage was struggling and I didn't want to inflict that on them, hard as it was to leave and find a home for them at the time. The only thing I regret is that they now don't have a relationship with their father because since they stopped wanting to stay with him every other weekend in their mid teens, he has never made the effort to keep in touch.
Anyway - who is giving up sex??
