Susi don't talke any notice of other people when you are running. As other say, othe people will always have their own views on your parenting but you can't possibly spend 24/7 with your baby, why should you. It's not like you are leaving him alone either! A happy healthy mummy is better than the alternative.

Well done to everyone for fab running

can't see how anyone can even say that, running is the most time efficient exercise and happy mummy = happy child
ridiculous!! i have run through 3 preg and returned to running about 3-4 weeks safter giving birth each time, its my sanity,my place and I am pretty sure it does me more good than an extra nap or a long bath (personally). anyway, my husband told me (especially with no1) it helped him to bond with the baby when I was out so try that one next time they talk rubbish :-) :-)

Thanks MummyV, I started little runs from wk4 after he was born. I would agree with the sanity part, even before the LO came along and I feel more refreshed and determined when I get home!!

The comments have came on the back of me mentioning doing some races. One was within our running group when I mentioned that if I had been race fit I would've liked to have done Culloden 10K again - more just commenting on the fact that it is an enjoyable and scenic race rather than a burning desire to get up there and run. The other comment was when I mentioned that I was toying with the idea of doing a marathon next year when he would be 10mths old. My other half is happy for me to do it and Grandma (DoricQuine) has offered to babysit on long runs) and by that time I can do some of the shorter runs with him in the buggy.....we've got it all planned out so it's not like he's being abandoned!!

Parkrun tomorrow morning with some very encouraging ladies, OH and LO are coming along to cheer me on :)

honestly people need to stop this "abandoning" business or worse still "baby-sitting" when all you are doing is taking a short time out while your hubby or granny have a bit of time with the baby, how can that be bad!??! if it makes you feel better I ran a marathon when my boys were 8mths, 10mths and 8 mths. perfectly possible if your other half is happy to help and if you time your feeds right :-) :-) that is not to say that you should be running a mara, just that it's not that awful a plan if it is what you want to do. enjoy parkrun tomorrow

Sorry to hear that you are getting comments like that SS28. How can anyone else possibly know what is right or wrong for you and your family? I've never had a comment as such, but I feel them indirectly - are you sure you're not doing too much, does Oliver enjoy being in the running buggy, does exercise affect your milk supply. Usually I would be really sensitive to that sort of thing, but I know how totally miserable I felt at times during those early days, and that running lifted me out of that, and made me a happier and better Mum to Oliver. Some people long for that night out, some people want a long soak in the bath, I run. You go and enjoy your marathon, you deserve it!!

Ruth, I'm still only doing Tupler type exercises, I'm still too scared to do a sit up! ;-)

Are they easy to do? I've got the book but it's a lot to wade through just to find a few exercises! Are they on YouTube?
