Does anyone on here know why my Garmin 735XT, which has the optical HR sensor built in, can't do HR tracking during swim activities? I can understand that the normal cheststrap isn't waterproof and they do make one suitable for swimming but selecting swimming disables the optical HR. I know it might not be as accurate but surely it wouldn't be that bad? And does the same thing apply to all the Garmin watches with optical HR? |

The list of compatible watches where you can use OHR whilst swimming is shown here support.garmin.com for the Forerunner series it starts with the *45 series ( 245, 745, 945 ) so 735 not compatible. I'm guessing it was a certain version of the OHR reader that was introduced |

I've got a 935, and it doesn't do HR. But I've got a Polar OH1 sensor that attaches to your goggles and sits against your temple - I can connect that up to my goggles to get a reading, so I guess it connects to watches too.

Thing is, Gus, I cheated a while back. I was doing rehab on the achilles last time round and I was doing "aquajogging". I set the watch as "cross-training" and it logged fairly accurate HR stats for what I was up to. I just don't get why they don't allow it to do the same for actual "swimming" activities. Seems odd to me when I'm pretty sure it would work to a reasonable degree. |

So I need to upgrade my watch? I'm sold on the idea but it might take a bit of persuading for Mrs Nellers to be OK with another bit of expensive exercise kit.

... or just capture your swims as runs and change the activity type later
