I routinely log the recovery HR by waiting the required two minutes, and runalyze reports it when it has been captured, but it's not showing on the GC app for me nonetheless. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Garmin limits how the app shows it depending on the watch owned, they do that routinely for features which are actually recorded by the watch or stored in the .fit file; that was the reason I started using runalyze after I think Badger pointed me in that direction with my old watch a few years ago.

Yes can confirm. On my Fenix 6x I can see recovery HR values back to November 2020. That went back for a warranty replacement and I used my old Fenix 5 (that nobody wanted to buy second hand!) for a bit in December 2021 and there are no recovery HR values for those runs on Connect, though they are visible in Runalyze.

Thanks for the info about waiting 2 minutes before saving a run. I did that this afternoon, and saw a Recovery HR of 17(?)bpm and some other HR figure below it of 32(?)bpm.
I had to rush to get a train so I then saved the run, but now at home I can't find those figures on the watch in the saved run, although the Recovery HR of 17 is on Connect.

I have no idea what those figures mean so I found this - support.garmin.com
It would seem that the 17bpm means I am not very fit :-p although in reality as soon as I had finished the run I was walking quickly to catch that train so that skewed the reading. Next time I'll have to do like SteveNR did and stop completely after finishing a run. Also, I obviously misread the other figure of 32, I guess it was probably more like 132

I don't tend to stop for 2 minutes, but do wait to get it recorded. Even if I'm not going for a full on recovery data point it is at least something of a measure of something!!

I was speaking figuratively (I was just knackered and wasn't thinking about it) but that's indeed what you have to do to get the «best» reading. When it was played up more on the older watches it was said to be a rough indication of fitness. I didn't and don't personally take much notice, TBF.

So to get the best idea, you need to stop, wait 2 mins and save when your hr is still high.
What about any cool down jog or in my case walk? My hr has already started to drop well before I stop the run on the doorstep

Then put the kettle on, and press save when I remember - so I have data, but not sure if it means anything.

The general idea of it (HRR) is for example covered here my.clevelandclinic.org but for some reason Garmin went with 2 mins not 1.

For specific watches I can't remember the sequence, but for older ones it was probably: do the activity as you want, press stop, keep still for two mins, then a little window would pop up with the HRR, then you could save. Maybe this is still happening with modern watches but it doesn't tell you about it live - my Epix doesn't.

PS this is before any cool down, since if you do that it has less way to drop and won't look so good!

OK the (current model) Epix manual implies that it might show up in the Training Status glance if you happen to look at it in the minutes after completing an activity. www8.garmin.com I doubt that, and it certainly isn't buried in that Glance some hours after training.

If you want to see it, after pressing stop, scroll to Recovery HR and press Start.

I'm not seeing anything in that page that mentions training status, was that the page you meant to link? It doesn't mention what you do need to do to see it either, that's documented on this page www8.garmin.com
