Thanks.

I'll have a look.

Yep, I just want to disable the HRM totally. I'm a bugger for white coat syndrome and dispositional worried + fairly recently had a bereavement. I suspect my watch telling me I'm stressed would tip me over the edge

That seems easy enough to just turn it off.

Now I need to see if I have enough pennies and compare features.

This is the first Garmin that has ever bust on me. Purps' second hand brick (remember when they plugged in to your pc and were too vast to be a watch) got upgraded when I was the only fool wearing one like that then my previous garmin was handed on to Mr LF when I upgraded. I'm hoping whatever I get next does me for at least 8 more years.

From new, I'd expect one to be able to work that long, though sometimes buttons etc can wear out. They are pretty reliable overall.

You can definitely pause training status so hopefully the other stuff can be done in a similar way. You can definitely turn off the HRM which in theory kills all the other stats.

I've battered the poor sod. Worn it for SUP hire to time the session, all sorts.

Excellent. Battery usage seems to kill them eventually. My old 920XT would only record for about 5 hours by the end so I had to keep charging it up, although the buttons were also showing signs of wearing out. I had an Edge 520 that went the same way although it's fine for turbo sessions.

On the higher-end ones you can set up power profiles and link them to individual activities, and though these you can disable the optical HRM (and set other preferences).

I got a 245 a couple of years ago but that's probably been upgraded since then. You don't have to look at your HR, I just ignore it.

245 is two generations old but is a great watch and probably can be found at a good price. 255 and 265 are the upgrades. Look at DC Rainmaker to compare between them.

My watch lets you turn the wrist HR off completely, and warns you that it turns off stress and body battery along with HR itself. Sounds like what you are after.
