It was Durbat that made me think about this. He fmailed me to say Santa had brought him a 305 and could I give him the skinny on the basics of using it. I thought "hmmm, that may well be usefult to a lot of folk" and the rest they say, is history.
I'll add stuff as and when I think about it.

EP, teh only reliable way I have found of ensuring the contacts don't short out with sweat. Garmin say that they fixed it in software but I remain unconvinced and have had no trouble since I taped the back contacts...

Ian - on the contact/tape thing I used to have to do that too and had real problems with the contacts on my first one (one of the first released). Since I had to get a replacement some 12 months ago I've had no problem at all with contacts blackening, so I reckon the issue is fixed now.
