He fmailed me to say Santa had brought him a 305 and could I give him the skinny on the basics of using it. I thought "hmmm, that may well be usefult to a lot of folk" and the rest they say, is history. I'll add stuff as and when I think about it.

Garmin say that they fixed it in software but I remain unconvinced and have had no trouble since I taped the back contacts... Ruth Go to "Settings/General/System/Tones", press the enter button and select "Off". I've updated the article to include this.

Hendo Dec 2007 10:20am, 27 Dec 2007 12,496 posts	0 Hendo Ian - on the contact/tape thing I used to have to do that too and had real problems with the contacts on my first one (one of the first released). Since I had to get a replacement some 12 months ago I've had no problem at all with contacts blackening, so I reckon the issue is fixed now. Good article by the way!
