With Garmin Connect you can turn on elevation corrections on which, I think corrects based on map data rather than watch data. I think that's recommended if your watch doesn't have a barometric sensor.

Anyone the proud owner of a Garmin Instinct?
My Fenix 3 (non-optical HR) is starting to burn through its battery in short order, so looking to replace later in the year. The Instinct Solar looks to have a good battery life, and wrist HR, and at half the price of a moderner Fenix is tempting.
Any thoughts?

I believe Gobi considered this but it missed some Fenix features he needed.
Got the Forerunner 245 the other day. Finding the 24/7 HR monitoring and the other stuff linked to it interesting.

Optical was decent on the run today. I tightened the strap a bit at halfway as noticed some 'cadence' readings and it seemed fine after that.
I'll probably use strap most of the time in training cbut I'll be able to get race HR now hopefully (don't wear strap in races).

Wife has the 245 spr, and it is good, but I want/need the 24 hour + battery. Apparently the new Sony chip in the instinct/fenix6 sips power compared to previous. Would probably use a strap for harder workouts, but optical should be good enough most of my plodding

I would think a FR945 fits your spec as well. It should be cheaper than a Fenix (but not the Instinct)
