Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The "green" one ( only green when in the green zone, can show as grey or red as well if you set up your zones ) is your beats per minute, the orange one is beats per mile. Not sure if it works on a phone, but on a pc/laptop if you hover over the graph it shows the two figures.

The idea of beats per mile is to get the figure down while running at the same speed. Note if you do hilly runs then comparing different routes doesn't work too well, as you generally have more beats per mile on the hills than you do on the flats, but good for comparing runs on the same route.

Any tips on curing dodgy GPS? On today’s run and a couple of others recently my Garmin 645 has me suddenly running all over the place which puts the the distance and pace out for certain sections.

I could do a factory reset but I am not convinced it would help.

Make sure it is properly locked on to satellites before you set off. It should be showing green. I’d also try a hard reset. This won’t wipe anything but could help. To hard reset press and hold the light button for about 15s until the screen fades to black. Then repower on the watch. See if that helps. Just out of interest what version of GPS are you on? It’s listed in the about page under settings.

GPS 4.40 is what it says for version.

Thanks, I’ll try a hard reset.

I do wait for the green to come on. The issue today came on towards the end of a long run. It seemed to be locked on fine until that point.

I think the version number indicates the problem. I seem to remember there was an issue a while back where a version was released with an issue (4.40) and you needed to load another version which has a lower version number to fix it. I believe the right version is 2.50 (well that’s what’s on my wife’s 645). Id go on to the Garmin forums and do some searching, but maybe just connect your watch to Garmin Express and try and upgrade the GPS.

Ok thanks. I don’t use Garmin express. I just sync watch to Garmin connect. May have to sort that.

Garmin Express is sometimes better than the app. Worth giving it a go.

Does anyone know if the run dynamics gets ditched when the hrm battery is low - the watch has complained for the last few runs that the battery is low, and today no run dynamics... :( How will I know what my vertical oscillation was?
