I often went to Liverpool home games with my mates when I couldn't get a ticket for Everton away. And a week later they'd come to Everton.

As long as you got there early enough to pay at the gate there was no issue.

Ticket only matches - pfffft ;-)

The Shay is pretty decent these days - pretty much all parts of it have been rebuilt in the past decade.

I think Mansfield Town left a long lasting memory with me...maybe not the first ground, but forlorn.

I remember going to the Shay in around 90. We stood on a gravel bank, Halifax hadn’t scored for about 9 games and they took about 10 minutes to get one past Jimmy Leighton.

GC, that was an odd day out to Wembley given york had just been relegated from the national league it wasn't that jovial even with the win!
