Gerrard is over rated and will not last at villa
Covid saved his job in Govan, 1/9 attempts in Scotland to win a trophy, I’m surprised that gets you an EPL job tbh.

Indeed, Callum Davidson at St Johnstone has won more trophies than Gerrard in the same period.

Reading Cruyff's biog, in 1981 he was in negociations to play for Leicester City!
Gerrard has about a year, give or take, much like the last 10 managers. I think they'll stay up, but that is because of Norwich, Newcastle and Watford. They'll then be in a similar position to this, at the same time, next season and that's when he will get the heave ho.

I put Gerard in the ‘unproven’ camp still. His stint in Scotland looks inconclusive to me. A risk, but there’s a chance he’ll do ok.
Lampard I’d put in the ‘proven’ camp. Sadly for him (and Norwich?) he’s proven not very good….

Gerrard is clearly unproven in a competitive league, but he will be backed financially by the owners, so only time will tell. Given he's only the second appointment made by NSWE, it'll be a good indication of their approach to giving managers time.
I remain unconvinced he'll be an upgrade on Smith (and unsure why Norwich seem to want Lampard instead of Smith)

Put me in the "Gerard is a great signing" camp. Delighted with this...
of course me being a Birmingham fan :-).

Lampard over Smith is the classic lure of the big name over decent pragmatic competence. Any glance at the two CV’s with the name redacted out would see Smith selected.
Fans, and chairmen fall for it all the time.

He must have been very low in the pecking order even at St Johnstone for that to be the case.
There's been seasons when Dover have been a full-time club, and seasons when St. Johnstone have had part-time first team players, so it doesn't seem implausible. There's clubs in the fifth tier in England with higher average attendances and higher annual turnover and wage bills than the bottom of the SPL.

TRO, absolutely. I've often felt Smith would've got more credit if he'd come from Europe rather than the Midlands
