@CasB is there a tri club near you? My experience is they are much more welcoming to swimmers of any level. Swimming is often the weakest link for a lot of triathletes so much greater range of abilities in a masters club. The ones I've been involved with offer coache sessions that help with technique. And a big plus (for me) is they only focus on the one true stroke, freestyle! (🤣🤣) I haven't done tri for yrs but always feel welcome despite my very open statements that the best place for bicycles is the scrap metal skip at the council tip. |

Reading these comments, I’m feeling very lucky that I’ve not experienced problems in my local council pool. We don’t book lanes only sessions and even then there’s usually spaces without needing to book. (I haven’t tried the very popular pre-work slots though). I thought 4 years n a lane was a bit much ![]() A question as a newbie… I was lane swimming a couple of weeks ago when the lifeguard asked us to switch to swimming the opposite direction - the whole lane were going the wrong way. Why would it make a difference? Thanks! |

@Sushi there are a couple, and I know people at both who would make me very welcome, but the logistics are complicated around in-office days and other commitments. However I've just discovered a Swim Smooth squad being set up nearby, and a parkrun friend knows the coach and sings her praises, so I'm going to investigate that for when things calm down after Christmas. Could be good!

@Alice the Camel if you're swimming next to a lane that is going the opposite way you won't catch arms over the lane rope because you're both going the same way down that side of your lane. I've explained that really badly haven't I? The lanes should be clockwise/anticlockwise/clockwise/anticlockwise so people are swimming across the rope next to people going the same way up or down the pool. No, I give up. I can't explain it apparently! |

Does it? I know what I meant and the more I read back what I said the less sure I am? ![]() |

Nah, you made sense Nellers. @CasB that sounds promising and we'll worth a look. I drive 4 miles to do a coached sessions when I live almost next door to my closest pool. I use that on the days there's no tri-swim. They do have masters there but I've never liked the elitist attitude or there instance that freestyle is not the only stroke 🤣 |
