My Garmin *always* gives me an odd number of lengths.

If that happens I look at the times as I do 100m splits most of the time it's easy to spot the issue

I assume the black bits are where Garmin has missed counted? My stroke count is way above what it is for other lengths in these parts.

Hang on, that wasn't what I wanted to post! I was looking at the cadence bit of the log. (Can you copy that bit only?)

I think that the timing of my breathing is wrong. I think I'm breathing too late in the stroke cycle and so I'm having to push down to lift my head (slightly) in order to breath.

I wonder if that's why I don't get the bow wave effect to make breathing easier too - hence having to push down to lift my head too.

The two things I found useful for that, rf_fozzy, were:

Imagining my right thumb is pulling my right ear and turning my head to the left to breath as my right hand is reaching forward to catch. And ditto on t’other side.

And dipping my chin as I turn to breath to really get the bow wave.

Do you do drills at all?

Are you rotating enough from the hips? I always try to imagine rolling the shoulder out of the water and that helps me. Also if you aren't level in the water due to streamlining and kick inefficiencies then you might have to lift your head more. Its something I always struggle with, particularly in Open Water

3rd swim in a row I have been hit swimming
today was a right bash in the back as I stopped to turn (had to stop as someone was in front of me)
Anyhow grrrr
So today I really focused on my pull through the water, I could feel it just like when using paddles and was a lot faster! So that's my focus now as it made a huge difference

Bash 'em back with the paddles EvilPixie, they'll come off worse...

Its amazing when part of the stroke clicks and you can feel the difference.

Which paddles do you use? I like the yellow Finis strapless one's which force you into a good hand position or you lose control of them
