Made it happen by taking this week off work. I may return to find that either my colleagues have voted to ban taking leave on the week before Christmas or one of them has bagsied it for next year.

I'm entitled to a non transferable day off today, along with about half of the staff (newer staff have different terms, it's a TUPE thing). My calendar is about as full of appointments as usual, so that's not happening then. Includes mri safety training for some body who started yesterday.

I thought I'd already finished work early but another job has come in for me to do today so less Fetching for me today than I'd anticipated.

McGoohan
Last year on the last day, the CEO and head of HR came around dressed as a Santa and an Elf respectively to say Merry Christmas and that we could now go. They came round at 5pm - which is the normal finish time...

(and were apparently shocked by the number of empty desks!)

Jeepers McGoohan that's grim, bet they took note of who'd gone as well.

I choose to stay until 5 - the work needs doing, if I bugger off now it will still have to be done. January is a crippingly busy time so any work done now is worth double in saving time in jan (less interruptions/meetings etc so work can be done efficiently as well)

Also working the 3 days between Xmas and new year, as every year, for the same reason.

I told my technician she could leave because I couldn't see any way she could help with the things I need to finish today, and she stayed another 45 minutes reading training materials.

This isn't helping with them either, it's just helping me get over the dismay that a random document I wrote in 2009 doesn't have as much detail as I remembered it having.
