@Shades the body analyser at my gym doesn’t specify what normal is. Instead, if you use the Compare function it will tell you how your numbers compare to other matched users - presumably other 61-year-old 5’7” women. But it only does it on fat mass, not percent. According to that I have 34.5kg of fat, compared to an average of 23kg for matched women. That’s just Boditrax users, though, not general population. One would hope that gym users are leaner on average than the general population. And that’s borne out by the fact that if I get down to 32kg, I will be in the green zone, which means acceptable. A year ago I was on 58kg. I’ve lost 23.5kg of fat, aka 52lb, or over 4 1/2 stone of FAT!! Just pausing to take that in. |

BTW, I looked up the average BMI for British women, and in my age group it’s over 28.

@RevBarbaraG wow, that's a hell of a statistic on your fat loss. Pity you aren't given some idea of how many others in your age/height group are used for comparison to know how meaningful the comparison is. According to our analyser I have 16.4 kg of fat. Normal range I assume calculated on age/height/weight is 11.6 to 18.5. My muscle is 22kg, normal range 22 to 26.9. So I want to increase the muscle which is what we're going to work on after the next review. |

How tall are, you, @Shades ? I’m 5’7”. According to Boditrax I have 51.8kg of muscle ( versus 45kg for the comparison group ). But a bit of simple maths tells me that what they are labelling muscle is actually non-fat mass - bone mass. In other words, organs and connective tissue are included in that total. It has my bone mass down as 2.8kg, versus 2kg for the comparison group. What am I - a Neanderthal? |

@RevBarbaraG I used to be 5'5" (165 cm) but I've shrunk a little to 164cm now. Just looking at my analyser sheet and it has Fat Free Mass which looks to be my total weight less body fat mass. Don't have bone mass. My previous instructor did explain how the algorithms worked and some of the assumptions but I've forgotten. We have segmental info for lean and fat for the different parts of the body. It says the segmental fat is estimated, so I assume the segmental lean is not. The segmental lean has shown up when I've had an imbalance between left and right legs. Still have an imbalance but now back to 100g, which is normal for me. Also has waist/hip ratio, BMI and BMR |

Sorry I've not been able to find time to chat lately. Have popped back to report a 0.4kg (which I'm calling a 1lb) decrease. Nice to see the weight going down rather than up as it did over the xmas period!

Yay! We know what to do, it’s just the doing which can be challenging. Personally I find it’s all in the momentum….. do the right things for just a few days and they seem to get really easy and you wonder why you ever struggled. At the moment, eating low carb and fasting are the easiest things in the world. I’ve sort of fallen into going sugar-free earlier than intended, and those remaining Christmas biscuits and mince pies are not calling my name. It’s a miracle, but I intend to enjoy it as long as it lasts. The other miracle is my blood glucose. OMG! Last week when I started my current pattern, my BG didn’t drop into the fasting range until the early hours of Tuesday morning, when I had already been fasting 28 hours. This week it was in the fasting range for 14/24 hours yesterday, stayed there through the whole night, and despite the well know. “Dawn phenomenon” has so far stayed in the fasting range this morning, including during my strength workout (hard exercise being one of the things which raises BG, albeit temporarily). As far as I’m concerned, this is a miracle. I had heard there was good evidence that longer fasts are really powerful against insulin resistance. Now I’m seeing it. I started this current phase intending it to last 7 weeks, until we go away for a few days to celebrate Mr’s birthday. I am even more committed to it now! |

Fabulous news on the blood glucose RevB. I agree, that as time goes on it gets easier to stick with our respective plans and temptations are rarer and less appealing. |
