That is a brilliant result Shades well done!! You have been very focused.

Good luck Sally, its hard to keep at it but hopefully the new habits that got the weight off last year can be built on.

@RevBarbaraG - I had a look back and my 10k PB was in 2013. I remember it well and I was determined to do a sub-60 10k as I was in good form at the time. I remember checking off each 1k at 6mins and at the 9k marker, told those around me if they wanted to do a sub-60 race, to follow me. Two did, and we ran as hard as we could. I crossed the line in 59:55 .. yes! šŸ˜€ Amusingly, I discovered afterwards I was a few places behind an ex-UK runner called Bruce Tulloh. His 10k PB at age 31 was 28:50 .. at the time he beat me to the line he was 78!

Ah, but @sallykate you donā€™t have diabetes. I do, and being over 50 they want me on a statin regardless. However, I am going to say No.

Iā€™m just reading up on it - the evidence is clear that total cholesterol and LDL are pretty meaningless, itā€™s HDL, triglycerides and the number and size of your LDL particles which matter.

I am going armed!

WtnMel - I've met Bruce Tulloh. I have a photo somewhere, he presented me with a prize at an ultra.

@Shades so normal BF% is under 28%, is that right? I find conflicting information wherever I look. Depending which scale you believe, mine is somewhere between 38% and 44%. So Iā€™m not worrying about the niceties yet (or trying not to). If I get it under 30% on both scales, Iā€™ll look into getting a more accurate assessment, and also think about a target.

Well the diabetes review went very well - although I must say the nurse looked a bit weary! Full of praises for what Iā€™ve done. Admitted she knows nothing about triglycerides and said the nurses need more training on lipids. Asked if I was interested in going back on a statin, and when I said No she took it off the prescription. And then when I said I hadnā€™t been taking the diabetes meds either (and, as she put it, ā€œyour sugars are lovelyā€) she took those off as well. And we had a good chat about low carb and fasting and lipids.

I also remember Bruce Tulloh from my first foray into the running world in the mid 80ā€™s. You know - when you used to eagerly await whatever day it was Runnersā€™ World was published so you could go and buy your copy, or (later) wait for it to plop on the mat as you were a subscriber.

Well done, GG.

My weight continues to whoosh, which is pleasing, but Iā€™m trying not to let it go to my head. On the trendweight moving average Iā€™m still above 14 stone, and even on raw scale not quite back to my triumphant ā€œIā€™m no longer obese only overweightā€ weight of whenever that was. But it will come.

Iā€™ve now done 4 consecutive days without sugar. Today is number 5.

@RevBarbaraG on the body analyser at my gym, normal range is stated as 18 - 28 %. Not sure, but that figure could be age related, I'm 68 now, I've just checked and when I was 63 the 'normal range' was the same.. I know if you look at tables for fat % on the internet they definitely are age related, but unhelpful. I assume a 20 year old would naturally have a much higher muscle % and a lower fat % than I would. Muscle loss is expected as we get older.

I'll ask the guy in the gym if the analyser takes age into consideration. He does input my height, age and sex pre weigh in.

What a satisfying diabetes review that must have been. Hearing the nurse say 'Your sugars are lovely' must have been a key moment in your journey. I bet the nurse doesn't say that to her other patients very often.

Well done on the 4 days without sugar.

Morning all :-)

That sounds a very pleasing outcome RevBG.

I am using today's weight as my official starting weight for 2025. 82.8kg is 5.2kg less than this time last year, which is good, but also 2.7kg more than in October, which is not so good.

The usual approach for me: two VLCD days per week, three less restricted, two where I don't aim for a deficit but make sure I stay in "credit". Plus as much exercise as the combination of cold weather and a heavy cold will allow!

Iā€™ve been awol for a while as eating too much millionaire shortbread/not doing as much exercise, and have put on a couple of kg.

Iā€™m starting this year 2kg lighter than last year, which is a win, but 2 kg up on where I was in the summer.

Sounds like your current plan is working well RevBG.
