Saw this quote recently, more about getting older healthily than runner-specific but I thought a good overall strategy:
STOP worrying about the NUMBER on the SCALE. Worry about the numbers that matter: Waistline < 34" women, < 36" men Walking 10K steps a day Lifting weights 2 - 4 x a week Eating healthy 90% of the time Body fat < 30% women, < 20% men
Body composition > body weight

Very true, non-runner.
I’ve got another 2.5” to get off my waist - or another 3 if you use the criterion that your waist should be less than half your height. And my body fat is in the high 30’s.
The challenge with both of those is that they change relatively slowly. The scale gives quicker feedback, but I do know it’s not what really matters.

A second little plod in my new running shoes this morning, just over 2 miles. Apart from pausing for road crossing, and walking across the level crossing, I ran the whole way from warm up to cool down.
I’m also keeping up with the 100 squats a day challenge for November, so far. And I somehow managed to find myself joining a 10 day plank challenge, 2 minutes per day, started Monday. On Monday, I managed it with a lot of huffing and puffing. Yesterday I did it after Pilates, and crumbled after about 1:20, but got back up. Today I did it after my run, and just made it.
I am hoping that at the end of this a 2 minute plank will be fairly routine. And that I won’t suffer from DOMS after Functional Fitness any more. Last Saturday’s class involved 70 squats (I was counting, for the challenge) and yesterday’s Pilates 45.

Oh, and that being the queen of squats, I will retain independence into old age. That’s the purpose of doing squats - leg strength.

RevB - you're making great progress fitness wise too. Agree about the squats, they are really effective.

I hate squats. But not as much as I hate lunges. Once I’m on point with squats, I will challenge myself with lunges.

I'm rubbish at lunges as I don't have full flexibility in one forefoot. I'm better at side lunges.

I struggle with lunges for several reasons. They expose my dodgy knee more than squats. But also they challenge my balance more. Though that is getting better as I lose weight.

My knees won’t really take either anymore, but lunges were always a problem for me, I ended up doing a kind of fixed split squat with small dumbbells for balance.
